Redcurrants in sugar

Region: New Nordic Diet in Europe (Belarus)
Main components:  redcurrants, sugar
Estimated cooking time: 5 minutes, waiting – 1-2 hours
Portions: 2

The recipe is taken from the book of Claus Meyer ‘The Nordic kitchen: one year of family cooking’. I only changed the amount of sugar: decreased from 50g to 25g.

  1. Redcurrants – 200g
  2. Sugar – 25g

How to cook:

  1. Wash the redcurrants in cold water and drain them in a colander.
  2. Layer redcurrants with sugar in a dish.
  3. Put the currants in the refrigerator to 1-2 hours.
  4. You have a lot of ways to serve the redcurrants: a) with ice cream; b) with yogurt; c) add to lazy oatmeal; d) with cottage cheese and sour cream; e) with cake; etc.

Taste (personal opinion): I loved redcurrants in sugar – they are cool after the fridge, sugar covers each berry and makes it a bit sweet. You can ‘just eat’ them without any additions 🙂

Happy cooking!
